Hypnosis
When the word, hypnosis is used in everyday conversation, it seems to stir many varied reactions. Responses range from disbelief to fear or even laughter. On the other hand, some people believe that hypnosis can work miracles. All of these reactions stem from the many misconceptions about hypnosis. A simple definition of hypnosis is:
Hyp-no-sis (hip no’sis) n., pl. –ses’ (-sez’)
[[Gr hypnos, sleep + -OSIS]] a state of increased suggestibility and concentration.
The term “Hypnosis” is derived from the Greek word for sleep but hypnosis is actually a state of deep relaxation in which people find themselves more susceptible to suggestion.
Physicians, Psychologists and Hypnotherapists have used hypnosis as a valuable tool in solving such unwanted behavioral problems as sleep disturbance, lack of concentration and memory, fears and phobias, stuttering and control of pain and asthma. Hypnosis has also been helpful in treating smoking, overeating, alcoholism, and skin conditions such as acne and warts. Electroencephalogram (EEG) research has found that people undergoing hypnosis show a boost in Alpha and Theta brain waves. Alpha brain waves indicate a state between wakefulness and sleep and are associated with relaxation and openness to suggestion. Theta brain waves are associated with even deeper relaxation. A person is more likely to achieve the Theta state when being hypnotized by someone else rather than when using self-hypnosis.
Hypnosis works by using techniques that bypass the “Critical Factor” and bringing the subconscious to the forefront of the mind and the conscious to the back of the mind. The “Critical Factor” is defined as the ability to reason. We usually develop this ability between the ages of five to six years old. Prior to that age, we generally believed whatever we were told based on the fact that we didn’t have much stored memory. After the age of six, we are capable of selecting what we believe based on our own experiences and emotions. Therefore, in order to reach the subconscious and bring it forward in the mind, the hypnotist must bypass the “Critical Factor.”
When this is accomplished, the hypnotist can communicate with the subconscious mind and give it suggestions to correct inappropriate and/or unwanted behaviors. In essence, this is reprogramming the subconscious mind to accept those behaviors desired by the client.
But what happens when we get rid of those inappropriate or unwanted behaviors? The client then experiences the desired results in behavioral modifications and achieves success in overcoming their problem.
Advanced Parts Therapy
Everyone is made up of different personalities or “parts.” There is a happy part, a sad part, a curious part, a critical part and many other “parts.” Some “parts” called sub-personalities are healthy ones that have adapted to life’s stresses in useful, protective or socially acceptable ways. Other “parts” can block our growth and development. Often these “parts” or sub-personalities cause unwanted behaviors such as self-sabotaging attitudes, violence, rage and chronic illness or disease. These aberrant or unwanted “parts,” however, think that they are doing the best that they can for the survival of the individual. Overeating, smoking, fears and phobias are some examples of these unwanted behaviors.
Parts Therapy is a technique that can be used to resolve unwanted behaviors that the client may have. The revolutionary “Nine-Step Advanced Parts Therapy” is an extremely powerful technique that efficiently uncovers the root cause of the client’s unwanted behavior. In many cases, it can totally resolve the client’s issues of the unwanted behavior after just one session. For more developed scenarios which require additional sessions, the “Nine-Step Advanced Parts Therapy” will produce key indicators that will guide the hypnotherapist to successful resolution in subsequent sessions.
Our Methodology
In our practice, we institute a variety of conventional hypnotic techniques to induce the calm, relaxed, hypnotic state of mind that opens the door to suggestibility. Then the essence of our work begins. We incorporate the “Nine-Step Advanced Parts Therapy” to resolve the issues and help to produce the desired results that the client seeks.
To further ensure the best possible outcome, a FREE CD or MP3
file of the session is provided for home use. We are finding that
the majority of our clients are requesting MP3 files and using MP3
players for home use of recorded sessions. We have the technology in
our office to record your session "live," convert it to an MP3 file
and download it on your favorite MP3 device
before you leave the office. For those clients who do not own
an MP3 player, we also have available (for a modest price) a 4 GB
MP3 player with ear buds and USB cable for any client who desires
this method of use. Therefore, anyone can leave the office with your
recorded session for use immediately!
Our methodology is a standard practice for all of our clients.
Our staff remains updated and current on the latest developments in
hypnotherapy through meeting continuing educational requirements and
standards in this field.
